About Jo |
Long an admirer of pottery, I have been working in clay since 2003. I've had the pleasure of studying under and being influenced by Ronan Peterson, Susan Filley, Leonora Coleman, Deborah Harris, Meredith Brickell, Marty Fielding, Nick Joerling, Gay Smith and Suze Lindsey. I retired in 2007 and established a home studio where I'm able to immerse myself in the creative process. In 2008 I joined with two other local potters to build a soda kiln on site. My work continues to evolve and is currently heavily oriented toward soda firing. There is such a rich clay tradition in North Carolina and so many accomplished potters locally, that I feel fortunate to be a part of this very vibrant community. Creating in clay is pure joy. I enjoy the dialogue with the clay and the challenge of finding a unique voice within the chorus of potters. I also enjoy exploring the effects of different firing methods on my pots. My goal as an artist is to embody the joy and excitementI feel in the creative process in my work whether I'm creating functional pots for everyday use or decorative pieces for the home. It is my hope that owning my work will spread some of that joy into your daily life. This year, as an added benefit, when you purchase one of my works, I will be donating 10% of the proceeds to the Red Cross's Haitian Relief and Development Fund. |
