Phat Ribs

I was first introduced to the "phat" rib by Ronan Peterson in a class at Claymakers Studio in Durham, North Carolina. Ronan credits his rib to a class at Penland taught by Mackenzie Smith. These wonderful ribs are very helpful to emerging potters as you work to create larger pots, particularly bowls. Since I have some wood working skills, I soon was making these phat ribs for local potters. I currently make two styles, oval and oblong (see photos below), but will consider any shape needed.
